Chronic pain relief without the negative side effects

Chronic pain conditions are complex. They occur in many different forms and are a significant health issue worldwide. Management of chronic pain can be just as complex. Traditional treatments may include dermal (skin) patches, antidepressants, antipsychotics, anti-epileptics, opioids, physical and/or psychotherapy, injections, or even surgical implantation of “pain pumps” into the spinal cord.

At Freedom Neurotherapy, we focus on treatment plans that follow best-practice standards and then customize them to meet the individual needs of each patient

  • • Ketamine Infusion Therapy is non-narcotic and has a very low potential for addiction because it is administered at sub-anesthetic doses.

    • Ketamine Infusion Therapy has proven effective in the management and treatment of many chronic pain conditions.

    • Ketamine Infusion Therapy stimulates the growth of healthy neurons and exhibits neuroprotective properties to existing neurons, which are responsible for the brain’s capability to “reset.”

    • Ketamine Infusion Therapy provides pain relief without the negative side-effects commonly associated with opioid pain medications, such as respiratory depression, constipation, “foggy head,” nausea, and increased sensitivity to pain.

  • Low-dose Ketamine Infusion Therapy stimulates the production and secretion of a vital protein in the nervous system called Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF), which is essential for neurogenesis (growth of new neurons) in the nervous system. These newly created neurons are crucial to the pain relief seen with Ketamine Infusion Therapy and will serve as new pathways for pain modulation in the brain, thereby replacing/bypassing existing damaged neurons.

This process of “re-routing” these pathways is why Ketamine Infusion Therapy is often compared to hitting a “reset” button. The brain can now redefine what it considers to be a painful stimulus versus a normal stimulus.

Ketamine targets specific receptors in the nervous system, one being the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor, and BLOCKS its actions. The blocking or inhibition of this receptor contributes to the pain-relieving effects of ketamine by blocking the transmission of pain signals to the brain. While ketamine blocks the action of the NMDA receptor, it stimulates the action of one of the opioid receptors, the mu receptor. Stimulation of this receptor also contributes to its analgesic effects.

Additionally, ketamine helps alleviate pain by reducing the amount of inflammation in the body. This occurs because ketamine causes cells in the body to decrease the release of inflammatory proteins known as cytokines.

Is Ketamine Treatment Right For you?

Chronic pain conditions can be very complex and unfortunately, may not be responsive to Ketamine Infusion Therapy. However, there are many chronic conditions in which ketamine has proven very successful in providing immediate, and often lasting relief. These conditions may include, but are certainly not limited to:

Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome, Cancer Pain, Fibromyalgia, Migraine Headaches, Neuropathic Pain, General Chronic Pain.
